Jaswant was elected to the City Council on 22 May 2014 to represent Bablake Ward. He is a Civil Engineer by profession. In the 2005 General Election, he contested the Coventry North East parliamentary constituency.

Cllr Jaswant Birdi is Lord Mayor of Coventry

Cllr Jaswant Singh Birdi received the Chains of Office on Thursday 18th May and will be Lord Mayor for the year of 2023/24 with his wife Lady Mayoress, Krishna Birdi, on his side. Coventry Conservatives congratulate Jaswant and wish both him and his wife a great year ahead.
