Tens of thousands of pupils are set to benefit from new, modern, energy-efficient school buildings as part of the Conservatives £1 billion ten-year rebuilding programme, to level up opportunities for all.

Cardinal Newman in Keresley, Coundon Court and West Coventry Academy are among the first 50 schools to be included in the national Schools Rebuilding Programme which will deliver 500 rebuild and refurbishment schemes.

Specific details are yet to be announced for the Coventry schools. However, the majority of the first 50 rebuild projects are expected to be completed within three to five years. The initial rebuilds and refurbishments are expected to create modern education environments with new facilities from classrooms and science labs, to sports halls and dining rooms. The schools will also be greener, helping meet the Government’s net-zero target. The programme will also help to create jobs, provide apprenticeships and generate training opportunities.

Coventry Conservatives have been campaigning for improved educational facilities and welcomed the announcement. Commenting on the news, Bablake Ward campaigner Steve Keough said: “Before the lockdown, many residents in Bablake Ward told me that education was their number one priority, so I’m thrilled by this announcement. Put simply, the children are the future. By providing them with good educational facilities we are ensuring that tomorrow will be better than today. Education is vital for society if we are to build back better after coronavirus.”
