Councillor Hazel Noonan, the Health Spokesperson for Coventry Conservatives, has welcomed the announcement of new funding to help University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust be ready for any additional demand on services that might occur this winter.
The Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, announced that £4m will be given to the A&E department at UHCW to ensure it can provide a good service to everyone that needs it this Christmas.
This comes in addition to a long term plan by the Health Secretary to deal with the pressures on A&E such as having a named GP accountable for care, investment in new technology to ensure patient records are shared between hospitals and family doctors and more money for social care.
Commenting Hazel Noonan said: "For the hardworking NHS staff that serve The Coventry area this extra money will be a welcome boost this winter, when A&E departments come under most pressure.
"Once again we are seeing a positive outcome for hardworking people from our decision to increase NHS spending, to enable all residents in Coventry to receive quality care when most needed, spending opposed by the Labour party."
