A group of pupils from Henry VIII Junior School recently met council officials to discuss traffic management around the school. Civic minded youngsters from the year 6 politics club were given the chance to make a presentation to the Council’s Head of Traffic and Network Management, followed by a question and answer session.
The visit included an opportunity to view the city from floor 13 of the Council's tallest building, Civic Centre 4, and a tour of the Traffic Management Centre. To finish off the day the politics group visited the public gallery of the Council Chamber to view a Full Council meeting in session.
It was arranged by Councillor Peter Male who first met pupils from the politics club in October 2016 when he took part in a Q&A session at the school. At the meeting the budding politicians quizzed him on a range of topical subjects such as Brexit, the US elections, HS2 and grammar schools.
Commenting on the visit Cllr Peter Male said; "This was a fantastic opportunity for young people to engage with the political process in Coventry and it was great to see such enthusiasm. My fellow Woodlands ward Cllrs Julia Lepoidevin, Gary Ridley and I, would welcome the opportunity to engage with more schools across the city, to hear the views of young people.
He added; “Politics, more generally, needs young people to engage and contribute to our national debate, particularly, as we prepare for a post Brexit world."
