Coventry Conservatives have welcomed the announcement from the Secretary of State for Transport, Justine Greening MP, that the Government is going to invest in the electrification of the Coventry to Nuneaton rail route.
The announcement comes on top of the KNUCKLE upgrade project which will see a new stations at the Ricoh Arena and Bermuda Village, together with a twice hourly service between Coventry and Nuneaton.
The decision to further improve the line between Coventry and Nuneaton is part of the largest rail infrastructure investment since the Victorian age, with £9.4 Billion of rail investment now planned by the end of the decade. The investment will also see more capacity made available on the West Coast Mainline and 850 miles of track electrified across the country.
This huge investment will also help to reduce the running cost of our railways.
Commenting on the announcement, Councillor Ken Taylor, the Conservative Spokesman for City Development, said: “This demonstrates the commitment of the Government to improving the infrastructure in our area. On the railways we are going to see vast improvements in the service between Coventry and Nuneaton, and on the roads we are going to see Tollbar Island upgraded. Whilst Labour dithered over this projects, the Government has committed to investing in local infrastructure that will help our local economy.
"Bringing jobs and growth to Coventry is vital, and improving the infrastructure and connectivity for our area is one of the key drivers to encouraging growth."
