Cheylesmore Conservative Councillor Hazel Noonan is reminding local residents that there is still time to have their say on the future of the Cheylesmore Pub site ahead of next week’s crucial Planning Committee Meeting.
The site has been derelict since the Cheylesmore Pub closed in 2006 and now two competing proposals are looking to bring it back into use. The first is a plan by a large supermarket chain to build a new store on the site. The second is a proposal by the Cheylesmore Community Centre for a community hub that would encompass many of the services provided by the current centre, plus new facilities for local people. Each proposal is the subject of Planning Applications that have been submitted to the City Council.
Whilst the deadline for the City Council’s formal consultation period on the ASDA plans closed on 29th December 2011 Hazel is reminding residents that their views can still count if submitted now. The formal consultation period on the Community Centre’s application does not close until Monday 9th January 2012. The three applications are scheduled to be considered by the Planning Committee on Thursday 12th January 2012.
Cllr Hazel Noonan (Con, Cheylesmore) said: “The future of the Cheylesmore Pub site is a key one for the local community and it is important that residents have their say on it. Whilst the formal deadline may have passed for the two applications submitted by ASDA residents can still submit their views if they did not get a chance to do so over the festive period. Any comments will be brought to the attention of the Planning Committee who will make this decision.”
“Hundreds of people have already signed petitions, submitted comments or returned the survey Cllr Kevin Foster and I did of local residents views on this issue. It is important that Cheylesmore residents have their say and even at this late stage any comments submitted could still sway the outcome.”
