Coventry Conservative Councillors Kevin Foster (Cheylesmore) and Allan Andrews (Earlsdon) were pleased to be able to take part in the Conservative Party’s social action project at Conference in Birmingham this year. Cllr Ken Taylor also took the time to pack a box for troops.
They went to the ‘Social Action Zone’ within the conference venue, and packed a box to be sent to a soldier serving in Afghanistan, in partnership with the charity ‘Support our Soldiers.’
Kevin and Allan joined a number of Ministers, Members of Parliament, Councillors, Party staff, journalists and delegates who also packed a box, with an accompanying note thanking the soldiers for their service and wishing them well. The parcels will be sent out in time for January, bringing ‘a little cheer for the New Year.’
Commenting on the project, Cheylesmore Councillor and Leader of the Conservatives in Coventry, Kevin Foster, said: “I was delighted to be able to take part in this year’s Social Action project at the Conservative Party Conference. ‘Support our Soldiers’ is an admirable organisation and it’s great to have the chance to send a parcel and a note thanking the troops who do so much to keep us safe.”
Adding, Earlsdon Councillor and Conservative Spokesman for City Services, Allan Andrews, said: “Christmas and New Year is a particularly difficult time for our Armed Forces personnel who spend many, many months away from their loved ones and friends, so sending them some ‘cheer for the New Year’ will hopefully be well received and remind them that we are extremely grateful for their service to our country.”
