Cheylesmore Ward Councillors Hazel Noonan & Kevin Foster have welcomed news that the City Council has refused planning permission for a late night takeaway that would have caused road safety problems and had a negative impact on local residents living near the premises on Daventry Road.
If successful the application, submitted by a company based in Leicester, could have seen a takeaway opening from 11:30am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 5pm to 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. The premises had until recently been used as an Antiques and Collectibles shop following a previous application for takeaway use being refused in 1989.
Cllrs Hazel Noonan and Kevin Foster supported local residents who objected to these plans. The objections raised by residents with the City Council expressed fears that a new takeaway would make problems with inconsiderate/illegal parking on the Daventry Road worse with these, along with noise problems, continuing late into the night. Officers from the City Council’s Highways Department also lodged a formal objection to the plan on the grounds of road safety.
Planning Officers have now refused the application on the grounds that the application would have an unacceptable impact on surrounding homes and road safety.
Cllr Hazel Noonan said: “I am pleased that Planning Officers have listened to the views of local residents and given this late night hot food takeaway plan a cold reception. There are already problems with vehicles illegally or inconsiderately parking in this area and this would have only been made worse by this proposal. There would also have been an adverse impact in terms of noise and litter on local residents. A further takeaway working late into the night would have been a nuisance and I am therefore pleased this Fish Shop plan has had its chips.”
