Sherbourne Ward Councillor Gary Ridley has announced that he will not seek re-election when his current term expires in May 2012.
Gary has served Sherbourne Ward as a Conservative Councillor since May 2002 when he became the City’s youngest councillor at the age of 21.
Gary also served as a Cabinet Member for six years during which time he unveiled the city centre Jerde regeneration plan, authorised the removal of the unpopular Broadgate canopy and announced the construction of a permanent memorial to civilians killed in the Coventry Blitz. After ten years of service Cllr Ridley has decided that it is time for change.
Commenting on his decision he said: “I would like to thank the people of Sherbourne Ward for their support and engagement over the last ten years.
"By electing me three times they bestowed upon me the greatest honour that anyone can receive in a democratic society which I will always treasure.”
He added: “I am proud of my achievements as a councillor but it is now time for me to pursue other things and to take on fresh challenges. I will continue to serve the people of Sherbourne Ward as their councillor until the election in May 2012, after which I wish my successor well, whatever political persuasion they are.”
