Earlsdon Ward Councillor Allan Andrews, the Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group, has welcomed a commitment from the Council to review its existing policy relating to disabled parking bays.
At a meeting of Full Council on Tuesday 10 September, Cllr Allan Andrews raised the issue of disabled bays in residential areas being misused by non-blue badge holders. At present, the Council does not enforce misuse of such bays in residential areas. In the city centre, motorists can be fined for using a disabled bay they are not entitled to use.
It follows Cllr Andrews being contacted by a number of residents throughout the city after initially raising the issue with Council Officers in August.
Commenting, Allan said: "Since the publicity that this issue attracted last month, I have received further contact from people with disabled parking bays being misused in various locations in the city. I took the opportunity at a meeting of Council this week to raise this issue with the Cabinet Member and I pleased that she has committed to reviewing the policy to see if there is any scope for improvement.
"As part of this, I am very keen to hear from people who experience problems with their disabled bays being misused."
