Councillor Hazel Noonan has welcomed news that the Planning Inspectorate has dismissed appeals in relation to 2 proposed late night takeaways in Cheylesmore.
The decisions relate to two properties, 111 Quinton Road and 131 Daventry Road, that are part of the Daventry Road Shopping Parade. If approved the plans, submitted by the same company, would have seen the takeaways opening from 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
Cllr Hazel Noonan supported local residents who were campaigning against these plans. Many feared that if these plans were approved there would be additional noise nuisance and that problems with inconsiderate parking on Quinton Road would continue late into the night.
Councillor Noonan is now calling on the company behind these applications to work with traders and the community to develop a vibrant local shopping experience in Cheylesmore, rather than carry on trying to convert local shops into late night takeaways.
Cllr Hazel Noonan said: “I am pleased to hear that the Planning Inspectorate has listened to the views of local residents and dismissed these appeals. Residents living nearby were rightly concerned about the impact this plan would have particularly the prospect of increased problems with inconsiderate parking on Quinton Road. I was therefore happy to support their campaign and am delighted it has ended with such a positive result.”
She added: “I would encourage the company behind these two applications to work with traders and residents to develop the parade as a vibrant local retail experience, particularly in light of the recent decision to give ASDA planning permission for a new store. This is what will produce long term success for our local retailers, rather than trying to turn the Daventry Road Parade into a centre for late night takeaways.”
