Residents living on Broad Lane and Hockley Lane will see new warning signage installed following action by local councillor Julia Lepoidevin to tackle the ongoing problem of oversized Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) using residential roads as a shortcut.
For some time, residents have experienced significant disruption, with large vehicles attempting to navigate unsuitable roads, causing congestion and, in some cases, becoming completely stuck because they are unable to negotiate the turns.
Following concerns raised by residents, Cllr Julia Lepoidevin met with those affected and the highways team to push for action.
As a result of her persistence, new warning and advisory signs are now being installed on key approaches to the affected roads. The signage is intended to alert HGV drivers before they enter residential streets and help prevent unsuitable vehicles from getting into difficulty.
Cllr Julia Lepoidevin said: "Residents should not have to put up with large HGVs using our residential roads as shortcuts, causing disruption and putting unnecessary pressure on local streets. I have listened to residents, raised their concerns directly with the highways team and pushed for practical action. I am pleased that new signage is now being installed, but I will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the improvements make a difference."
This is another example of local representation in action, listening to residents, raising concerns and working with the council to deliver practical improvements for the community.
